The reboot of the original Godzilla brings with it a very eerie feeling. The new Godzilla is explained in a very scientific way, but still leaves room for mystery. Thus, ‘Shin Godzilla’ can also keep interest. Therefore, if the film can keep people watching it must be good, right? That is correct and it is why I am writing this film review for ‘Shin Godzilla.’

This reboot of Godzilla was one that I was looking forward to ever since I heard about it. When I saw the film for the first time, I was confused because usually Godzilla just kind of exists. However, this time Godzilla is a creature that was unknown to the entirety of the public. Thus I was immediately hooked within the first minute of the film. Seeing a Godzilla that evolves before your eyes makes him all that more terrifying. Starting from the beginning, he is not much to look at, but he gets scary.

Even though Godzilla is weak at the start of the film, that does not mean he can’t cause tons of collateral damage. In this film he is back to just a mindless version of himself who is looking for nuclear energy. That motivation is what drives him; that, and survival pushes him to evolve rapidly. We also see how government officials would react in the modern age to something like Godzilla. Not well.

This image shows a picture of the third form of Shin Godzilla standing upright.
Shin Godzilla Stage 3

IN THE END

The next time we see Godzilla, he is a walking weapon of mass destruction. Even with advanced weaponry, he is impossible to harm permanently. Therefore, we see people trying to come up with new ways to stop him. As if to prove to us that he is a god, like his namesake, even the plan that does work won’t stop him forever. This is why I think this film is so well executed. It is also the reason why I am writing this film review for ‘Shin Godzilla.’

Flash Gordon Film Review: He’ll Save Every One of Us https://dtn.myuat.com/flash-gordon-film-review/ https://dtn.myuat.com/flash-gordon-film-review/#respond Wed, 23 Oct 2019 18:10:45 +0000 https://donttellnetflix.com/?p=1311 By George Robbins

This film review for the 1980 film Flash Gordon is being written to illustrate the fact it is a gem. The film itself, while strange, does have a pretty coherent plot. Following this it is also decently written, and this makes the story relatively easy to follow. Most people don’t even know where the character comes from and I can see why it would be confusing. After all a football player in space isn’t usually how sci-fi films go. At least not how watchable movies go.

The character of Flash Gordon was originally created as part of a space opera comic strip. I know that fact on its own makes the premise of this movie strange, but hear me out. Throughout the film, there are countless situations that arise and some border on the side of “huh?” The reason for which is the fact that those events seem to just be random. Though it all just ends up coming together. The absurdity of the film is what makes it so great.

For a film from the 80’s, it has a long run time at almost 2 hours. That works perfectly for the film, however, as everything that is squeezed in has a time and place. This film is an epic from the 80’s to me and I think it should be seen that way. Nothing to me compares to how the film plays out, and I will always find it entertaining. Hopefully if you decide to watch it you’ll find it entertaining as well.

A Philadelphia Experiment Film Review https://dtn.myuat.com/philadelphia-experiment-film-review/ https://dtn.myuat.com/philadelphia-experiment-film-review/#respond Tue, 22 Oct 2019 20:58:43 +0000 https://donttellnetflix.com/?p=1177 By George Robbins

[usr 4]

Where to really start this film review for ‘The Philadelphia Experiment.’ The best place to begin I suppose is that this film is based off of an urban legend about the so called ‘true’ Philadelphia experiment. This fact alone makes the film seem eerie. This helps the film, however, as it just makes the film more tense. After watching the events that transpire in the film, it can leave viewers stunned that maybe, just maybe, it all happened. This is how I’d imagine feeling if I saw it when it first released.

The first time I watched through the film, I had an uneasy feeling. The uneasy feeling never really goes away, even now when I think about it. This lends itself to the film very well and makes it all the more entertaining. Though those of you who have seen it know, perhaps, what I’m talking about I don’t want to ruin the moment for others. Thus, with that being said, this film is just another great science fiction film.

The 1980’s really were a great period for science fiction films, and this movie is proof. This movie makes you think; maybe an experiment like the Philadelphia Experiment actually existed. Most people would say absolutely not, but you never know. Hopefully after reading through this film review, some of you might start thinking that. I hope so because it would be great to have more scientific conspiracy theorists out there in the world.

If you want to find any more information on the film, feel free to click here.

If you want to see another great science fiction film from the 1980’s then try ‘Short Circuit.’

Film Review for Wall-E: EVA? https://dtn.myuat.com/film-review-for-wall-e/ https://dtn.myuat.com/film-review-for-wall-e/#respond Tue, 22 Oct 2019 18:51:34 +0000 https://donttellnetflix.com/?p=1153 By George Robbins

For the title of this film review for ‘Wall-E,’ I felt it necessary to include what is essentially a tagline for the film. This movie is one that I have loved ever since its release. The titular character of the film is one that anyone can fall in love with at any age. This movie was made for children, and also adults who are kids at heart. Wall-e is a character that was perfectly designed to make you simply say “awww.”

As I said, this film is one that I fell in love with the first time that I saw it. I remember seeing the main character for the first time and not knowing how the movie would play out. Thus my expectations for the film were confused and it’s why I love it. However, robot all on his own is not a film, and this is why they make him sociable. this changes how the whole film plays out. Sometimes, one person can make all of the difference, and Wall-E being friendly and hard-working shows this best.

There is plenty of love that can be seen throughout the entirety of the film. Everything is animated to feel more life-like. Even the parts that don’t seem like they fit in are integrated very well into the film. Then the way the characters are portrayed pulls it all together. Therefore, I feel as though this is an animated film that cannot be missed out on. Everyone who sees this movie will most likely love it.

For more information on the film please click here. Perhaps for something similar, but with more adult content you can watch Book of Eli.

Falling Skies: They’re Here https://dtn.myuat.com/falling-skies-theyre-here/ https://dtn.myuat.com/falling-skies-theyre-here/#respond Mon, 21 Oct 2019 21:03:36 +0000 https://donttellnetflix.com/?p=1065 By George Robbins

‘Falling Skies’ is a series that I spent a lot of time watching and re-watching. As it is a completed series, I can be satisfied whenever I’m doing a watch through of the show and I reach the end. At the start you are thrown right into the action with little narrative explanation, but it is just enough to make sure that you know exactly what is going on. There is action right out of the gate when the show begins, but the biggest part of the show isn’t the action, so much as the drama. What would people do in an apocalyptic scenario and they were forced to fight or hide from aliens. That is a question that is answered very well in this show and makes for good, but also somewhat cheesy interactions between the characters. I always look forward to re-watching it every once in a while because I will suddenly remember how much I enjoy it.

This tv series is easily one of my favorites of all time. I am a huge science fiction fan, and as such this is a fantastic series. The accurate depiction of how physics is affected in space starts right from the first episode and had me hooked. That and the mystery introduced to the audience as well makes you want to keep watching to see what is happening. This is made even more mysterious when you realize that it is a mystery that began at the far reaches of our solar system. ‘The Expanse’ is a show where if one mystery is solved, then another one pops up immediately after. Just like space in real life; if we discover something about the universe, then we will just keep ending up with more questions. Scientific curiosity is one of my favorite things in science fiction and this series shows that sometimes it can just go too far.

As a blockbuster film, it is already expected that this film would be relatively well received. I rather enjoyed the movie as well, though I have to admit I haven’t read the book. It doesn’t at all matter though whether you read the book or not, because the film is an experience all on its own. It is by no means a perfect film, but it is entertaining nonetheless. The biggest issue I had with the film was the pacing and the sudden character changes as a result of the pacing. I understand that in order to not make the movie unbelievably long, the pacing needs to be adjusted accordingly. It is for this reason that I believe the movie is good for what it is and I don’t expect it to be anything more. It is simply a fun action movie to watch and myself being a gamer makes me like it just that little bit more.

This is one of my favorite Stephen King adaptations, and from what I’ve heard it’s one of his too. I remember the first time that I saw this film I was filled with suspense and anticipation. On top of that there were moments thrown in that just skeeved me out, but it was a welcomed experience. It is easily in my top ten list for horror films and that is mainly just because of the ending. The premise of the movie is one that is easy to follow right from the start and you already know that it is a horror film from the first couple of minutes. There is also an air of mystery surrounding the events going on in the film, and this just ends up making it more engrossing as time goes on. ‘The Mist’ is a film that makes you want to keep watching for that same reason. It is not a film with no faults whatsoever, but it is a movie that I think is an absolutely necessary watch just so that people can understand what a terrifying situation can do to make people go insane. This is easily a horror film mixed with a film on human behavior in social situations that should be studied so that people are aware of what other people will do in desperate times.

It feels as though most, if not all space films have to have some degree of horror added to them. Sometimes it is a monster or sometimes it is just space itself that can be horrific. Couple that with how horrifying people can be and you end up with a film that shows one of the worst case scenarios in a world saving endeavor. Both sides of human nature can be seen in this film, a fearful and ruthless side, and a brave and selfless side. That dynamic is what I think makes this film shine compared to other horror films. Every character is shown to have both sides to them throughout the film. This all comes to a head and you end up with a film that shows off just what kind of event you can end up with in an unlikely situation. This film is one that I would absolutely recommend someone watch if they have time.

[usr 3.8]

The best way for me to sum up this film is exactly what is in the title of this post. Not just space can be terrifying though; humans, as shown in the film, can be just as scary as well with the things they do or make. The film is just full of horrifying things throughout, and some things are more obvious than others. This film lets you know early on just what type of film it is going to turn into. The film goes from mystery to thriller-horror very quickly and it is just as fantastic as it is terrifying. I can maybe see why the film received average or low scores when it released, but there is definitely a reason for why the film is now considered to be a cult classic film. There are a ton of themes that play throughout, but it seems that religious themes take the first pedestal in that regard. It isn’t something that is just constantly pushed in your face though, so I think that the film avoids being too preachy. It is a great film, and an excellent horror film that I think any horror movie buff should definitely go and watch.
